St. Marys Clinic is Open!
Kapyera Village is in the Eastern Province of Zambia. The people of this village and over 20 surrounding villages must walk 7-15 miles over difficult terrain to obtain the most basic health care. As a matter of fact, most sicknesses result into loss of life due to time wasted trying reach the health center. This includes women in labor and extremely ill infants and children.
Friends of Chipata Foundation was inspired by the dedication and hard working spirit of this community and offered to work in unity with them to build a clinic. Standard Government Blueprints for the project were acquired from the Ministry of Health and the community immediately began making the bricks. Friends of Chipata immediately began fundraising.
Building the clinic included:
-Fresh water well was dug to supply fresh water to the villages
-Villagers hand-made every brick for the clinic
-Building infrastructure built by village and local craftsmen
-Solar equipment donated by Ascension Parish children (Oak Park, IL) for their Lenten project is in the village
-Container full of used medical equipment shipped by Mission Outreach is in the village
-Roof is put on the main building
